How not to get lost in a difficult situation and what to do if you burn before the arrival of the ambulance, says presenter of “First aid” channel “the Doctor”, the doctor-resuscitator Alexey Starks.

Take the classic summer situation, when the person was cooking meat over an open fire, decided to accelerate the process and splashed lighter fluid, resulting in severe burns of the hands. In this case, the degree of tissue damage often depends on how quickly helped.

The first step

First of all, we need to assess the depth of lesion and burns. A superficial burn is red spots on the skin or blisters with white, strained. Deep burns are considered, if the blisters markedly bloody contents of red or brown color, if they are lethargic or burst and clotted crusts.

The second step

Superficial burns need to be cooled. This is best suited ordinary tap water. Its temperature should be around 20 °C, and cooling time is approximately 15 minutes. The burnt spot need to put them under water and take this way, heat from the skin. Deep burns not cooled immediately closed with a clean cloth!

The third step

Further than a superficial burn should be closed. Ideal for this use a sterile bandage, but obviously in an emergency this is not always achievable. You can use any clean cloth such as a t-shirt.

Gently apply the cloth to the burn surface, trying not to cause additional injury. In order to clean the matter did not fall from the burn, gently secure. The bandage should not be oppressive, not to provoke the opening blisters — it is necessary only for fixing the cloth on the burn. In that case, if the clothing is stuck to the wound, must be carefully cut with scissors around the affected area, not lifting with the stuck fragment from the skin.

For burns not:

1. Is puncturing blisters: this immediately makes the wound infected.

2. Apply to the wound wet dressing: for a while it will really relieve the pain, but it will increase the risk of wound infection. An analgesic effect of this bandage is to be held in less than a minute.

3. Use the following ingredients:

• vegetable oil film, which forms fat, stopping heat transfer. Thermal energy from the surface will penetrate into, affecting the deeper layers of the skin;

• alcohol — alcohol dehydrates the skin that will only worsen her condition;

• urine — its anti-inflammatory properties not scientifically proven.

The victim should immediately take to the doctor if:

  • the body deep burns (darkened skin, broken blisters and crusts);
  • burn blisters cover the area larger than the palm of a person;
  • burns sokolinye the affected areas on the body: face, neck, groin, hands and feet.

Such burns should be examined and treated only by the specialists.
